Embers hovered over orange cinders, floating in the late spring breeze. A young Roegadyn watched as they rose slowly upward, bleeding into the sparkling inky night. He loved the stories his brother told him about the star figures: warriors of great might and heroes of strong will. Tomorrow, he will get to start his journey to be a hero too; his father was going to take him on his first hunt! He pulled on his tunic as he dug his toes into the dirt. He wondered what trials he would have to surmount to join them in the stars. What adventures he would have!The clan leader’s hand tapped his shoulder, suddenly pulling the boy back from his heavenly musings. The other children around him moments ago were gone. It was his turn! He looked ahead and saw his family waiting for him. Without hesitation, he sprinted to them, unaware of the span of coals he had just trampled over.“Ha ha, my little cub! Not even a firewalk can give you pause!” A deep laugh escaped the man’s chest as he knelt down and scooped his son into his arms. “You remind me of the unrelenting sands of Thanalan. Soon your feet will learn the same feeling as those who travel those scorching dunes.“I know just the name for you: Brazen Desert.”

Appearance: Owing his strong build to a long bloodline of Sultansworn, Brazen stood apart from his peers at the Studium. He bears a collection of white tattoos that crawl over his umber skin—astrological symbols converging from his arms to back. Scars mark his face with the largest crossing his gray-blue eyes. Brazen often wears shaded lenses to protect his book-weary eyes from excessive brightness as they are accustomed to the black of a stary night.Personality and Beliefs: As stubborn and pridefull as he is tall, he was almost expelled for his defiant behavior until a particular sage took him under his wing, sensing a passion for stargazing in the young cub.Brazen has a strong sense of honor and is proud to follow in his heritage of being a Paladin. A glory-seeker by heart, he will never back down from a challenge. He has a fun-loving spirit and is a huge buffoon: pulling pranks and cracking crude jokes--usually ones only he finds absolutely hilarious.

Battle Style:Trained in the arts of war, Brazen found himself to be a superb tactician both before and during battle. Betting on the star's fortune, Brazen's aggressive and unrestrained battle style stays true to his name.

Born second to the retired Silver Peak, Brazen Desert aspired to honor his heritage of Sultansworn by joining the Paladin’s ranks when he came of age. He trained tirelessly on the ridge of Ablatha’s spine with Broken Thunder, his elder brother of eight years, who would soon take their father’s soul crystal leaving for Ul’dah. During the Garlean invasion Ala Mihgo, Silver Peak joined the resistance, dying in battle shortly before Brazen turned sixteen. Wanting to spare her youngest son from a life of combat, Brazen’s mother sent him to the Sharlayan Studium.Upset at this twist of fate, Brazen resisted his studies until a respected professor connected to the lad through his love of stargazing. Although a poor student amongst the other subjects and never fitting in with his peers, Brazen took quickly to the studies of Astromancy and Elemental Energy until he became a fairly competent Astrologian.Weeks before receiving the mark of mastery, Brazen read an omen in the stars to distrust the next gift he would receive. The next morning, a Paladin from Ul’dah delivered his Brother’s soul crystal and belongings along with the news that Broken Thunder died in a training accident. Angered at this news, coupled with the philosophy of inaction that was pervasive at the Studium during the Calamity, Brazen abandoned his examinations and traveled south to investigate his brother’s death.Although aware of the corruption in the Sultansworn ranks, Brazen swore an oath as a Free Paladin to uncover the true source of his brother’s death from inside Ul'dah's shady walls.

After his arrival in Ul'dah, Brazen found that his father's old house was sold to a skilled Alchemist and a fashionable scholar, a pair interested in starting a venture. Although they annoyed him at first with their ceaseless probing at his years of research, Brazen found the group to be quite amiable and their cause intriguing. After a series of contractual work as a combat specialist, Brazen decided to join the Free Company, Allag Ruin Salvaging, on a more permanent basis; given his history with the group, he headed any operation that needed a bit more than diplomatic words.Brazen soon offered more to the company than his sword. He often used his authority as a paladin to facilitate many of the company's dealings (his patrons in Ul'dah always happy for more coin). Hearing news about the upcoming Eureka expedition that was soon to take place, Brazen left for Kugane, while helping to facilitate the company's existing plans to expand to the east.
